Turn Off Computer

The “Turn Off Computer” icon allows you to shut down, restart or put your computer into standby or hibernate mode.

The Turn Off option in the “Turn off computer” dialog box is the correct way to shut down your computer. The “Turn off computer” dialog box gives you several options. Turn Off the computer, Restart the computer, or go into Standby/Hibernate.

Selecting Turn Off closes all open files, closes all programs and network connections and then turns the computer off.

Selecting Restart closes all open files, closes all programs and network connections and then reboots the computer.

Selecting Standby/Hibernate is mainly for laptop users and is used to put the computer into low power consumption mode to preserve battery life without shutting the computer down completely. This option enables a much faster return to operation than booting the computer from scratch. The Standby or Hibernate option may not be available if your hardware doesn’t support it.
